Link between genes and depression debunked!
I came across an excellent article on naturalnews.com. Basically there has been a full study conducted by researchers from the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health and published in the Journal of The American Association. This work reviewed the work of some 14 studies including 14,250 people, 1,769 of whom had suffered from clinical depression.
The key finding failed to discover any link between the so called variant genes responsible for serotonin transportation. The neurotransmitter serotonin is believed to play a major role in depression, which is linked to various anti depressant drugs that act as serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
A suggestion from the Keith A. Young of Texas A&M Health Science Centre indicated that rather than the biological issues the more important factor was how the brain is wired to respond to environmental factors.
Of course the linkage fits very comfortably with NLP thinking, explained as external stimuli passing through our internal filters creates an internal representation that creates behaviour. We can very quickly clear the historic wiring to alleviate the negative impact of a specific state so that a client can achieve their desired outcome.
